Important information
Hypothetical illustration only. The Financial Freedom Calculator produces hypothetical illustrations based solely on the information you enter and on the assumptions described below. Results are not a forecast, projection, promise or guarantee of any future outcome, do not reflect actual investment results of any person, and are not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security or to adopt any investment strategy. Your actual results will differ, possibly materially, and you may lose some or all of the money you invest.
Education, not advice. Call to Leap is operated by CTL Community LLC and provides financial education. CTL Community LLC is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, financial planner, tax adviser or law firm, and is not registered with the SEC, FINRA or any state securities regulator. Steve Chen and Call to Leap coaches and team members are not licensed financial advisers and do not give personalized investment, tax, legal or retirement-planning advice. Using this calculator or speaking with our team does not create an adviser-client or fiduciary relationship. Consult a licensed professional who knows your full circumstances before making any financial decision.
*About the 12% to 17% range. The shaded range and the P.A.I.D. Accelerator comparison show how your money would grow if it compounded at a constant 12% to 17% a year before inflation, and what that would pay you at the 4% rule. The range is based on approximate annual returns self-reported by some Call to Leap P.A.I.D. Accelerator students over the past few years. These figures have not been audited or independently verified and are not typical. Many students earn less, some lose money, and results depend on each person's capital, effort, skill, discipline, risk management and market conditions. Results from recent years, when the broader stock market also rose strongly, do not predict future returns. No investor earns a constant annual return. Monthly income figures in the comparison use the 4% rule at the age you entered, in today's dollars.
Assumptions and limitations. Growth is modeled with monthly compounding at a constant rate and a constant monthly contribution. Current-path rates are rough assumptions, before inflation, based on where you say your money sits: savings or CDs 4%, a mix of cash and funds 6%, ETFs or index funds 8%, not sure 7%. All results are shown in today's dollars: growth rates are reduced by an assumed 3% yearly inflation, and your monthly contributions are assumed to rise with inflation. Your Freedom Number is 25 times the yearly income you need after any Social Security or pension you enter, based on the 4% withdrawal rule of thumb, which does not guarantee that withdrawals will last. "Extra years" compares the age you entered with the age your current path reaches your Freedom Number on these assumptions. The calculator ignores taxes, fees, commissions, early-withdrawal penalties, required minimum distributions, market volatility and the order in which returns occur, all of which can change results significantly. The calculator may contain errors and is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
Risk. All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Options trading involves substantial risk and is not suitable for every investor, and some options strategies can lose more than the amount invested. Before trading options, read Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options, published by the Options Clearing Corporation. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Testimonials and Steve's story. Steve Chen's personal story and any student results describe individual experiences. They are not typical and are not a promise or guarantee that you will achieve similar results.
